A Statement from the Department of Comparative Literature

Wed, 12/21/2016

The faculty of the Department of Comparative Literature at Cornell stands in solidarity with all those who are threatened by the rhetoric, actions, and proposed policies of the incoming U.S. administration and by xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and racism wherever they are manifested. Our discipline’s particular commitment to linguistic, cultural, and ethnic diversity allows us to work against prejudice and hate through a belief in the value of all cultures. In the wake of the November 8 election, we reaffirm that commitment to our students, our co-workers, and our extended community, and pledge to do whatever we can to create spaces to speak and learn without fear. With kindness, joy, and determination, we are here to welcome and share knowledge with all students regardless of documentation, gender, race, religion, or sexuality.
