Research Focus
Arash’s current research is focused on what he defines as the theory of care. The theory of care challenges and rejects other manifestations of care, including the 2500-year tradition of the philosophy of care in the West, the ethics of care, and the clinic of care in the works of psychoanalysts such as Freud, Lacan, and Willy Apollon. The theory of care, inspired by a comparative literary study of the Eastern and Western traditions of caring, becoming, and selfhood, and the contemporary studies of care, including Foucault’s massive work on the history of care in the West and Heidegger’s pioneer theory of care, responds to the questions of being in the world with non-humans, and caring for the self and the other in the discourses of citizenship-immigration-borders as well as feminist and gender studies. Mapping the field of care through the lens of the theory of care, Arash Shokrisaravi aims to offer a new understanding of humanity, human primordial cares, and care in America.
